Life Jacket Awareness – Enjoy your time at the lake while keeping your kids safe.

Passengers on a boat must wear a US Coast Guard Approved life jacket until age 13.

To ensure you are choosing the right jacket follow these steps:

US Coast Guard Approved Life Jacket
Appropriate size jacket for weight and size of child
Make sure to secure all zippers, straps, and buckles tightening them to have the jacket fit snug against your child
Check the fit by lifting up the shoulders of the life jacket. If the life jacket hits the child’s chin or ears it is too big and you need to find a smaller jacket or recheck the straps for snugness.

Car Seat Law becoming effective January 1, 2019

All Children up to age eight must ride correctly secured in a federally- approved child safety seat.
Children ride Rear Facing until up to age 2 or until they reach the upper weight or height limit allowed by the car seat’s manufacturer.
Children under age 8 must ride in the back seat, as long as there is a back seat equipped with a seatbelt and is not already occupied by other children under eight years of age.
Children ages 8 – 18 must ride secured in a safety belt or child safety seat (booster seat).
Childcare providers must transport all children securely in an appropriate federally approved child safety seat or safety belt.
Children up to age 18 are prohibited from riding in cargo areas
